The February 28, 2011 meeting of the Recreation and Grounds Committee, held at South Riding Center was called to order at 7:00 p.m. by, Charlene Jones, Committee Chair.

Resident Comments: Todd McFarland commented that he thought the snow removal in South Riding went very well.
Approval of the Minutes: Steve Sebestyen moved to approve the January 2011 Recreation & Grounds Committee Minutes as submitted. The motion was seconded by Mark Henderson. The motion passed unanimously.
Presentation by Tennis League: Tony and Debbie Lodato presented the Tennis League Guidelines, Policies and Court times to the Committee.
Donna Mines moved to recommend to the Board of Directors to approve the 2011 Tennis League Guidelines as amended. The motion was seconded by Mark Hendrickson. The motion carried unanimously.
Presentation by Tennis Pro: James Grein presented his program and court use time that he would like to reserve at the South Riding Tennis Courts.
Donna Mines moved to recommend to the Board of Directors to approve the 2011 Tennis Pro Schedule as amended. The motion was seconded by Ken Walsh. The motion carried unanimously.
Tennis Court Enhancements:
March 22nd both CASA and the County Summer Programs open up for Registration. Dulles South is one of three County facilities accepting applications for the entire county so it will be a very busy day at Dulles.
Working on County Improvements around the skate park area. Putting a fenced in area taking up approximately 7 parking spaces to avoid skaters running into the parking area. More parking spaces, however, will be added at the back end of the community center towards the Senior Center side.
Pre-school lottery has been done and the community center is short 50-60 spaces at this time. We are now setting up a waitlist for this program.
Update on landscape renewal working group - Four Landscape designs were submitted. The committee discussed the options and made a motion.
Todd McFarland moved to recommend to the Budget & Finance Committee and the BOD to move forward with the Meadows Farm Landscape Proposal not to exceed $63,960. The motion was seconded by Ken Walsh. The motion passed unanimously.
Update on Fishing Pier - Schematics of a fishing pier and its location on the pond located off of Crossfield Drive were presented. Committee likes the location and looks of this pier and requested to move forward with this draw up and would also like pricing on it.
Ken Walsh moved to recommend to the Budget & Finance committee and the BOD to approve the Fishing Pier project as drawn up not to exceed $125,000. The motion was seconded by Todd McFarland. The motion passed unanimously.
