Notice: Proposed Changes to the South Riding Proprietary Design and Maintenance Standards Fall 2018

Dec 12, 2018

It is not deja vu! This is new!

It seems like yesterday the updated Design and Maintenance Standards went into effect (it was May 1, 2018). At the direction of the South Riding Proprietary Board of Directors in consultation with legal counsel it is time to make some minor changes to existing language to ensure the standards do not contradict the hierarchy of governing documents, current legislation and recent court verdicts as well as reflect recent Community Standard Committee decisions. The following is an example:

Existing language: All drainage must be contained on the Lot and shall not adversely impact adjoining Lots or Common Areas.
Proposed language: The intention is that every attempt should be made to maintain the drainage patterns as reflected on the recorded plat, established by the developer and approved by Loudoun County at the time of home construction. The recorded plat takes precedence over any South Riding Proprietary rules or regulations.

We are writing this article on a sunny October 23rd afternoon and further proposed edits are anticipated. The Community Standards Department Staff is currently working through the document making suggested edits for review by the Community Standards Committee at their November 14th meeting. Committee input will be implemented, and the recommended changes will be presented to the Board of Directors at their currently scheduled December 6th meeting. The updated digital document in its entirety is available for review using this LINK or upon request by email to communitystandards@southriding.net.

Homeowners, please send any feedback and suggestions you may have to the Board of Directors attention by email to communitystandards@southriding.net or by letter to Town Hall - 43055 Center Street, South Riding VA 20152. You will receive written acknowledgment of receipt of your submission by a member of the Staff. The deadline for feedback submission is close of business Wednesday, February 6, 2019. The Board of Directors will review all owner and legal counsel feedback at their February 6, 2019 Board meeting. All owners are invited to the Open Session of that meeting which begins at 7:00 p.m. at South Riding Center located at 42420 Unicorn Drive, South Riding.
