Recreation & Grounds Committee

The April 8, 2013 meeting of the Recreation and Grounds Committee, held at Town Hall was called to order at 7:00 p.m., by, Donna Mines, Committee Chair.

Approval of the Minutes:  Charlene Jones moved to approve the March 11, 2013 Recreation & Grounds Committee meeting minutes as amended.  The motion was seconded by Ken Walsh. The motion passed unanimously.


Reports: 

Chair Report: Donna Mines

• Donna discussed member attendance and reviewed the committee charter concerning member reinstatement.

Board Report: Jeff Salmon
• The Board of Directors approved the amended basketball goal rules as submitted by the Covenants Department. The amendment requires all basketball goals receive written approval of the Covenants Committee and any basketball goals located on roads maintained by SRP (private lanes, streets, pipestems or alleys), the applicant-owner must obtain prior written approval from all owner(s) of affected lots on said road. 
• The Loudoun County Board of Supervisors approved the fiscal year budget for 2014. This includes the bond referendum package which approves the funding and budget for phases II & III of the Dulles South Multipurpose Center.  The phases include an indoor swimming pool, athletic turf and field improvements, parking lot area, etc.
o The Board has requested that staff market the information about phases II & III to the community as it will help better serve a significant amount of our residents.

Loudoun County Parks and Recreation: Paul Goudeau
• No Report

Operations/Recreation Report: Farah Scruggs
• Clippers has submitted proposals for the planters at the pools. The vegetation and flowers will be the same as last year. Hyland Hills Pool will be reevaluated to see if more or less planters are needed after the completion of the splash park.
• High Sierra is beginning pool opening this month and is scheduled to start in the coming weeks.
• High Sierra’s Aquatics Coordinator, Natalia, will be arriving in the first weeks of May. Staff will schedule a meet and greet with the Committee after she arrives.
• The cardio gym has been utilized by many of our community residents. There have been 375 entries to date. Fobs are still available at Town Hall and staff has been monitoring the cameras daily.
• The approved pool schedule and hours of operation are posted online and staff is in contact with camps, lesson providers, and swim team.
• Tennis Lessons and League have started and are going well.
• New Cardio tennis class has proven to be an asset; the classes have many new participants.
