Republic Services provides trash, recycling, and seasonal yard waste collection for South Riding. This page includes collection schedules, preparation guidelines, bulk pickup information, and disposal resources to help make collection day easy.

COLLECTION REMINDERS

  • During windy weather, secure carts to prevent litter.
  • Holiday collection follows the regular schedule except for Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day.
  • Schedule changes will be posted on this website and South Riding Facebook page.

To replace a broken or damaged container please email Republic Services at  southriding@republicservices.com.

  • Photo of the damaged bin(s)
  • Preferred replacement size (bin sizes are 65 or 96 gallon)

(Please note you may receive a refurbished container)

Bulk Item Pickup Tips

RECYCLING – Thursdays

Lidded wheeled recycling bins can be obtained free of charge.   ALL recyclable materials (cans, plastic, cardboard and newspaper/magazines) can be collected in this cart and wheeled to the curb on recycling day (Thursday).

YARD DEBRIS – Mondays (March 1st to Dec. 24th)

Accepted yard waste includes routine landscaping materials only. Yard Waste Collection Tips

Yard Waste Requirements

  • Maximum of 10 bags, containers, or bundles during peak season
  • Branches must be:
    • Less than 6 inches in diameter
    • Cut into 4-foot lengths or shorter
    • Tied with rope or twine
    • Under 50 pounds

Leaves and grass clippings should be placed in:

  • Paper yard waste bags marked with an “X”, or
  • A container labeled Yard Waste

SPECIAL DISPOSAL

PAINT DISPOSAL

Republic Services does not collect wet paint.

Before disposal:

  1. Mix latex or water-based paint with kitty litter, mulch, or paint hardener.
  2. Allow the paint to dry completely.
  3. Place the open can inside your regular trash cart.

Improperly disposed paint can damage collection vehicles and delay service. Residents may be responsible for cleanup costs.

CHRISTMAS TREE RECYCLING

Trees are collected curbside during the first two Mondays in January or they may also be dropped off at the Meadows Pool parking lot collection area through mid-January.

Before disposal:

  • Trees in excess of 8 feet in length must be cut in half
  • Remove lights
  • Remove ornaments
  • Remove tree stands
  • Do not bag the tree

Artificial trees and wreaths are not accepted

HOUSEHOLD WASTE

HHW is defined by the EPA, as any waste produced in the home that is dangerous or potentially harmful to our health or the environment. Loudoun County hosts several events each year for county residents to dispose of their HHW. Visit their website at https://www.loudoun.gov/hhw
